Capitalist suffered his first defeat from four starts when second to Golden Slipper rival Kiss And Make Up in the Group 2 $300,000 UNSW Todman Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on March 5.
Following the race, Racing NSW veterinary surgeon reported that Capitalist was mildly sore in the off front foreleg and subsequent back soreness and would be required to pass a fitness test before taking is place in the Golden Slipper.
Co-trainer Paul Snowden reported that Capitalist has overcome any problem that surfaced after his Todman Stakes defeat and was passed fit by the clubâs vet following a solid workout with stablemate Defcon at Randwick this morning.
âHe is a hundred per cent. He got vetted this morning by the AJC stewards and they passed him with a full bill of health,â Snowden said.
âHe pulled up with a little bit of back soreness through the back and certainly reacted well with treatment and he takes his place on Saturday.â
Capitalist was undefeated from his first three starts and kicked off his unbeaten run with a win in Listed $150,000 Newgate Breedersâ Plate (1000m) at Randwick on October 3.
The Written Tycoon colt was then sent on a Magic Millions campaign with an easy win in the $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1100m) at Wyong on December 17 before claiming the big prize with a two and half lengths win in the $2m Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 9.
Paul Snowden, who trains in partnership with his father Peter, said that Capitalist would definitely have to improve on his Magic Millions 2yo Classic win if he is to win the Golden Slipper.
âHeâs gotta be, it is a completely different ball game the Slipper, there is more pressure, there is more runners and there is more at stake,â Snowden said
âHe has to be on his A game, Blake (Shinn) has full confidence in him.â
Blake Shinn has been aboard Capitalist in all his four race starts and will be able to give him a dream run from barrier two.
The Snowdens will also saddle last start Black Opal Stakes winner Defcon and Reisling Stakes runner up Quick Feet and Pual Snowden said that it has been a real team effort to have three runners in the worldâs richest two year old race.
âObviously everyone is doing their job to qualify as many as we can for this race. To have three in it is a real big bonus,â Snowden said.
Capitalist is listed at $9 at Ladbrokes.com.au on the third line of Golden Slipper betting behind the Mick Price trained pair of Extreme Choice at $3 and Flying Artie at $5.
